Shannon K. Dray, age 90, of Canton, died Sunday morning, September 3, 2006, at Altercare of Canton. He was born on July 4, 1916 in Mechanicstown, OH to the late Harry and Zelma Dray. He graduated in 1937 from the former Canton Central High School and then joined the Canton Fire Department. His career as a firefighter spanned over 43 years. He was promoted to Captain in 1948 and to assistant chief in 1962, a position he maintained until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Canton Lodge #60 F. & AM, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, 32nd degree, Valley of Canton and Tadmor Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Dray, to whom he was married for 58 years. He is survived by his son, Keith Dray of Canton; grandchildren, Brian Dray and Shannon Troy Dray, both of Canton, Jennifer Sumser of North Canton, Lori Dray of Bradenton, FL; and eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother, Robert Morris Dray of Canton and sister, Mary E. Hartman of Carrollton. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Reed Funeral Home, Canton Chapel, with Canton Fire Department Chaplain Jeff Bullock officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Fire Department Last Alarm Service will also be conducted.
