SHERRILL >> Timothy A. Garner, age 69, of Sherrill passed away Friday afternoon, Jan. 15, 2016 at St. Joseph's Healthcare Center of Syracuse with his loving family at his side.
He was born on March 20, 1946 in Oneida, N.Y. the son of the late Eugene and Jeanne (Noyes) Garner. Tim was a graduate of V.V.S. Central School, where he played on the football and golf teams and upon graduation, attended Rider College, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
He left college to join the Navy in 1966 to 1970 where he was proud to serve as a corpsman.
On Aug. 19, 1967 Tim was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Susan Miller, and the couple shared a loving marriage of over 48 years together until Susan's death on Sept. 6, 2015.
Prior to his retirement Tim was employed as the logistics manager with Oneida Limited Silversmiths.
He was a devoted member of St. Helena's Church, the American Legion Post 230 of Sherrill and was a former board member of the Oneida Community Mansion House.
In his spare time Tim enjoyed wood-working and gardening; and it always brought him great happiness whenever he could help others with these projects around their house. He also enjoyed being outdoors, traveling in the Adirondacks with his wife, fishing and canoeing.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer (Garner) and Tony Troilo of Massachusetts; one son, Jeff Garner and fiancée Michael Cross of Kenwood; three grandchildren, Katelyn Troilo, Lia Troilo and Charlotte Garner, all of Massachusetts; two sisters, Kathy Garner (his fraternal twin) and Sue (Garner) and brother-in-law John Campanie, all of Kenwood; mother-in-law, Marion Miller; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Linda and Art Winterton, Pamela and James Kines and Lori Leonard, all of Sherrill, and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016 from 4-6 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Road, Sherrill. A celebration of Tim's life will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Helena's Church, Primo Avenue, Sherrill. Spring burial with military honors will be in St. Helena's Cemetery, Oneida, N.Y.
