Mrs. Dawes was born March 11, 1922, in Bauline, Newfoundland, Canada, daughter of the late William and Ida (LeGrow) Butler. She lived in Middlebury for more than 50 years. After her retirement from the dietary department at Waterbury Hospital, she worked in the cafeteria at Pomperaug High School for many years. She was an active member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Middlebury.
Besides her husband of 61 years, she leaves a son, Robert W. Dawes and his wife Jean of Middlebury; two daughters, Sandra Piscitelli and her husband Robert of Cheshire and Elaine Hazelton and her husband Evan of Watertown; a brother, Bert Butler of Newfoundland, Canada; one sister, Jean LeGrow of Newfoundland; seven grandchildren, Kevin Dawes, Kristine Boisits, Dr. Joshua Hazelton, Jarrod Hazelton, Jenna Hazelton, Michael Piscitelli and Darrin Piscitelli; three great-grandchildren, John Boisits, Matthew Dawes and Ryan Dawes; and numerous nieces and nephews in Newfoundland. Two brothers, Cecil Butler and Matthew Butler, predeceased her.
