Elizabeth Anita Schaeffer, 87, passed away peacefully at her longtime home on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016. She was a native daughter of Leslie County, KY, born to the late Bill and Jane Lewis Sizemore, but lived most of her life in Ashland. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by husband Harry Mac Schaeffer; brothers Billy Sizemore and Walter Sizemore; sister Lucretia Sizemore; and great-grandson Brian Lee Harned.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter: George William Wyatt (Rita) of Knoxville, TN; Jeff Schaeffer (Lisa) of Louisa, KY; Harry Lee Schaeffer of Ashland, KY; and Hilma Harned (Lyndall) of Ashland, KY. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; Brothers and sister: Joyce (Jim) Moore of West Palm Beach, FL; David Sizemore (Connie) of Winchester, KY; George (Molly) Sizemore of Hyden, KY; and Tom (Jewell) Sizemore of Dayton, OH; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Women’s Circle and a past finance committee member. She worked for KY River Coal, Farson Motor Lines, and retired at age 83 from H&R Block as the favorite tax preparer of many.
Anita enjoyed working in her flower gardens and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Kentucky Wildcats and Green Bay Packers. She enjoyed politics very much and believed strongly and worked hard for the democratic party. In the past she was a member of the postal workers auxiliary and fundraiser for various charities. She was always involved with her children’s activities and served as a scout leader, band parent and homeroom mother. She will be missed by her family, friends, and her four legged companion, Minnie.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel at 2:30 PM with burial to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12:30 PM until service time at 2:30 PM.

The family is very appreciative of the love, prayers and support they have received over the course of her extended illness. They particularly would like to say special thanks to her caregivers, especially Paula, who was with her through her final journey. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
