A native of Fort Worth, she graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1939. She was employed by Montgomery Ward in 1949 and was a nurse's aide during World War II.
She married Grady Hemphill in 1945 upon his return from Italy in the U.S. Air Corps. They were married for 67 years and together raised four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mary served for 30 years as the Ridglea Baptist Church librarian and was a dedicated servant of God. Mary was also a very active Girl Scout leader.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Hemphill; and son, Bill Hemphill.
Survivors: Son, Gene Hemphill and wife, Ann Gilley-Hemphill; daughter, Marilyn Stephens and husband, Rocky; daughter, Carla Lane and husband, Ronnie; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
