Marion arrived in heaven on January 13, 2016. She was greeted by her beloved husband, Jim, who preceded her in death in 1989. Marion was born February 20,1922 and grew up in Baltimore, MD. – she was the fifth child of 10 and is survived only by her youngest sister, Ann Marie Merkel. She graduated from Annapolis High School and married Jim in 1941. They raised their family of 4 children (Betsy, Jimmy, Joni and Philly) in Salt Lake City, UT and were faithful, active members of St. John’s Lutheran Church there. They moved to sunny St. George, UT in 1989. Marion moved to the Seattle area in 2010 to be near two of her daughters.

Marion had many careers: A devoted wife, super Mom, Mother-in-law love (Julie, Carl and Steve), Grandma of 13 and Great Grandma of 16 – known as “Grandma Happiness” and “Grandma Bus”, Sister, Aunt, expert piece-goods clerk for Kresses and JC Penney, Waitress, Hot Lunch Cook, Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Seamstress, Counselor of many teen-age Walther Leaguers (they called her Auntie Marion), Pep Club Pom-Pom maker, Church Janitor, Fabric Collector, Knitter, Canasta, Bingo and Crossword Puzzle Champion, Member of the Wasatch Wagons and Renegades, Jim’s primary caregiver, Best Hugger Ever, Dog Trainer – Cat Avoider, Owner of Mt. Rainier, and someone who loved to giggle and laugh out loud!

Marion’s body will be laid to rest next to her beloved Jim on January 22nd at 11:00AM in Washington City Cemetery in Washington, UT. Marion is with Jesus and is busy hugging all the people who beat her to heaven!
