Lester Dean Roberts, the son of William and Anna (Sanders) Roberts-Silsby, was one of 4 children, was born on January 28, 1928 on a farm near Peabody, Kansas. He passed away on January 14, 2016 at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 11 months, 17 days.

Dean attended school in Jewell, Kansas. He was engaged in farming, and worked for Reece Construction who helped build the Lovewell Dam. He was united in marriage to Joanne Ross in 1970 at Salina, Kansas and they were later divorced.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and teaching his nieces and nephews cribbage. He loved to dance especially the two-step, and his hobby included wood working. He loved to share his childhood stories to family and friends. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. During his lifetime he lived in Peabody, Jewell, Salina, Concordia, Jamestown all in Kansas and Superior, Nebraska.

Dean entered the nursing home in Superior in December of 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Kenny, sisters Elsie Baumbach, Marjorie Yoder, and Naomi Paul and nephew Dennis Roberts.

He is survived by his step brother Robert Maple and wife Pat of Minnesota; step sister Mary Ann and husband LeRoy Rowson of Salina, Kansas; half-sister Carolina Fair of Salina, Kansas; and half-bothers William “Bill” Roberts and wife LeAnna of Abilene, Kansas and Marion Roberts and wife Debbie of Michigan; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor David Johnson officiating.

Pallbearers were Donald Moore, Lucas Baumbach, Bret Roberts, Alex Baumbach, Adam Baumbach and Jason Jensen.

Honorary Pallbearers were Dean's nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery at Burr Oak, Kansas.

A memorial has been established, and may be given in care of the family.
