Jerry Cantrell Torbett, 78, of Athens, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at NHC HealthCare of Athens.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Fred and Mary Lee Cantrell Torbett, and was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Scott Torbett.

He worked for Mayfield Dairy for 46 years and was a volunteer fireman for Athens. His hobbies were softball for Mayfield's, coaching Little League and umpiring softball. He enjoyed bowling Monday night for Mayfield's. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens for many years, sang in the choir and was secretary of his Sunday School Department for several years.

The family would like to give a special thank-you to caregivers at NHC for their grace and mercy to our loved one during his brief illness and passing and also to Dr. Charles Cox for his loving kindness to Jerry and his family.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Faye Huckabey Torbett of Athens; daughter, Lisa Renee Torbett of Austell, Ga.; grand kitties, Pricilla and Vollie; identical twin brother and his wife, Pat and Betty Torbett of Englewood; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Dr. Jason Clark officiating. Interment was 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were James Brown, Skip Kwiram, Junior Huckabey, Toby Ghorley, Wayne Richesin, Ron Ford, Dee Liles and Jerry Stephens.

The family received friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, in the funeral home.

The family requests instead of flowers that donations be made to your favorite charity or First Baptist Church of Athens "More Than A Building Fund," 305 Ingleside Ave., Athens, TN 37303.
