Darryl Taylor, 51, Sterling was born September 11, 1964 in Lawton to Bobby Wayne and Vadie M. (McCarley) Taylor. Darryl was the younger of two brothers born just 3 years apart. They grew up in a loving and hard-working family. Darryl had the misfortune of being run over by a car when he was getting off the school bus at 11 years of age and he spent a year in a body cast. It took a lot of inner strength to endure that recovery, and he drew on that strength again in his later years. In high school he worked for Bess Bratzler, weeding at the plant nursery. His senior year he had accumulated enough credits that he only had to attend school half a day, and he spent the rest of the day doing whatever came to mind. This was totaly unknown to his parents because they both worked in town. It was years before he acknowledged this fact to them. After graduation he was employed at the shoe factory in Medicine Park while he attended Cameron College, and then went to work for the wallboard factory in Fletcher. After he injured his back, requiring extensive surgery, he helped with the family dairy farm. When his father got sick he could no longer run the family business, Darryl took over the operation. Darryl was a caring and thoughtful young man. If anyone was in need, he was willing and able to do whatever he could to help. Sometimes he just saw something he could do for someone and did it without ever being asked. His mother, Vadie, had a stroke 8 years ago and Darryl saw it as his duty to become her caregiver. He was faithful and diligent in all his duties and gave her care willingly and lovingly. If you asked anyone in the area with a shinning car that looked like it just came off the showroom floor, they would say “Darryl did it”! He took great pride in his detailing work and had a clientele that kept him busy for many years. This community meant a lot to him. When he had the opportunity to help some of the girls’ basketball team get exposure for scholarships, he brought the coach of Oklahoma University to Sterling and introduced her to the girls’ coach so she could observe and meet the team. Always he thought of others before himself. Darryl was a farm boy through and through, and even after moving to town, he loved to garden and work in his flower beds. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed attending the races at Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas, camping out in the parking lot for the weekend with his cousins, Tom and Susan and going with his brother to see his last race. His battle with cancer for the past year has been a long tough one. Doctors told him when he was diagnosed he probably had 6 months. Being Darryl, he just didn’t accept those odds. He lived every day as he had the one before, and doubled his expected time here with us. This world has lost a kind and generous soul, but Heaven is rejoicing and welcoming him home. He will be greatly missed, but he is in a better place and we will see him again.
He is survived by his mother Vadie Taylor, his brother Randy Wayne Taylor and wife Janet, nephews Garrett Taylor, Chase Taylor, and Cody Loveall, nieces, Heather Taylor and Lyndsey Loveall, grandnephew Braxon, grandniece Courtlyn and Kenadi Taylor, as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Henry and Ruby Taylor, and T.O. and Gladys McCarley, his father Bobby Wayne Taylor and several cousins, Peggy, Foye and Dean.
