Dorothy Marian Searfoss, 86, of Gladwin, Michigan passed away at the Gladwin Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre on Monday, December 28, 2015.

She was born in Midland, Michigan on April 19, 1929, the daughter of Otto Adolf & Edith (Taylor) Bruggeman. On March 2, 1950, she married the love of her life, Floyd “Pete” W. Searfoss in Midland. They celebrated 42 wonderful years together before he predeceased her in 1992.

She was a lifetime resident of Gladwin County and she was owner/operator of Searfoss Foster Care Home for many years. Dorothy was a kind and generous women who would help her community in any way possible. She would gather clothing, washing and mending it to give to the needy, and went so far as to take food from her own pantry to provide to families in need. She adored her grandchildren and loved to help care for them as much as possible while their parents worked. She raised Quail for the children teaching them to appreciate and watch the many stages of their growth. She was a hardworking woman who loved animals of all kinds, helped her husband on the farm, baling hay, cutting and chopping firewood to keep the family warm and fed. She very much enjoyed gardening, was a fabulous cook and was especially known for baking delicious apple pies and homemade biscuits from scratch. Even when in her later years when she needed to be cared for in a nursing home herself, her generous nature never left her. She continued to visit and give to others by helping the residents.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughter: Lucinda Dean of Gladwin, MI; son: Timothy Keith (Marlane) Searfoss of West Branch, MI; daughters: Althea Lynn (David) Strickland of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; Janet Marie (Bruce) Brown of Gladwin, MI.
