Mary Jo Witherspoon, age 70 years, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 6-8 P.M. at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2015, 10:00 A.M. at Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton, Missouri. Interment will follow in Deepwater Cemetery, Deepwater, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and may be left in care of the funeral home. Fond memories and condolences can be left online at www.vansantmillsfuneralhome.com. Mary was born in Clinton, Missouri to Claude Stotts and Alice Smith on September 2, 1944. She was baptized at Allen Street Baptist Church in 1965. She married Dewayne Witherspoon at Allen Street Baptist on November 11, 1961. She was a very loving and devoted wife and mother. Mary worked at the Daily Democrat for twenty years. She was a valued member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, and the Faith and Hope Women's Club. She enjoyed reading, especially the bible, and camping. Above all else, Mary loved her family. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and step-mother, sister Shirley Landes, brother-in-law Clayton Landes, and step-granddaughter Amanda Atkinson. Among survivors is her husband Dewayne Witherspoon, son Robert Witherspoon (Jackie); daughters Angie Wynne (Robert), and Stephanie Atkinson (Bobby); brother Arthur "Sonny" Stotts; sisters Betty George (Robert), Cecile Bigler (Raymond), and Claudia Wells (Jim); grandchildren McKenna Stevens, Lee Lovellette, Scott Lovellette, Letisha Airrington, Lisa Solorza, and Jeff Atkinson, and eleven great-grandchildren.
