Charles Abney age 80 a longtime resident of Grinnell, Iowa died Wednesday morning at a local rest home. He had been in poor health for the past several years. Burial in the Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, Iowa.

Charles Louis Abney was the son of Louis Wilson and Martha Jane Lewis Abney. He was born near Hastings, Nebraska. The family moved to Boone County, Iowa when he was young and he received his education in the Boone Public Schools.

He was married to Ethel Mary Holmes in Marshalltown, Iowa in 1903 and to this union were born two children: Eva Belle, who died in infancy and Charles Russell. They were divorced in 1911 in Marshall County, Iowa.

He moved to Grinnell about 50 years ago and had been employed with the M & St Louis railroad and as a janitor at the Grinnell State Bank.

In addition to his son he is survived by two brothers George Abney of Grinnell and Ernest Abney of Marshalltown; one sister Martha Hulbert of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter in 1906.
