Glenn Wicklund, 86, of Rockford died Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Born April 18, 1928 to Iver and Ruth (Newquist) Wicklund in Junction City, Wisconsin. Attended school there until the family moved to Rockford in the early 1940’s and then attended Alpine School, Lincoln Jr. High, and East High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946–1948, and was stationed on the U.S.S. Wisconsin. In 1949 he married Marion L. Sjostrom in Rockford. Glenn worked at George D. Roper Corp, and then got involved with the floor covering business, which he worked in for the rest of his life working at Johnson-Olson, Cummings and Swanson Floor Coverings. He and his partner Axel Nielsen owned and operated Linman Floor Shop from 1957–1962. He was “on his own from time to time”, doing business as “Glenn’s Floors and Walls” and Glenn’s Floorcoverings. In 1979, Glenn along with “Davis Caves” built one of the first underground homes in Rockford. It was and still is situated in the Revere Ridge subdivision off of Perryville Road. He was a talented man who enjoyed life and liked to have fun. He took a sewing class, learned oil painting, and made a canoe. Although he liked to fish and play golf, what he enjoyed the most was playing horseshoes. He was instrumental in getting horseshoe courts in Dahlquist Park and ran the Horseshoe Club there for several years. In addition, Glenn enjoyed camping and square dancing and was involved in both activities for many years. He belonged to Carpenters Union, American Legion, Carlson Post, and Beloit Horseshow Club. Glenn attended the Salvation Army for worship services.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Marion; son, Dan Wicklund; granchildren, Matthew Stokes, Haley Stokes, Ben Wicklund, Noan Wicklund; sister, Hazel Lodermeier; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; daughter, Sally Stokes; son, Gary Wicklund; brothers, Elroy “Bud”, Gordon, Howard and Arvid Wicklund; sisters, Betty Holt and Ruthetta Larson.

Services will be at 11:00am on Friday, April 25, 2014 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory, Rockford Chapel, 4311 North Mulford Road, Loves Park. Visitation will be from 10:00am to services Friday. To leave condolences and share memories online visit www.honquestfh.com.
