John Tazewell "Tas" Hudson was the son of John Hudson. His mother* is unknown. He was six years old when he and his three sisters moved with their father from Tazewell County, Virginia to Kanawha County, in 1848 and moving to Alum Creek, in 1856.
The Hudson family cemetery is on the site of the Hudson farm and his father was the first to be buried in the cemetery in 1865.
Taz served in the Civil War in the 7th Regiment, WV Cavalry, Company C, Union. Rank was Private on enlistment in 1861. Discharged as a Corporal

*There is speculation that his mother's name was Ruth. This is a result of Tas' death certificate stating Mother's last name as "West". I believe the person filling out the certificate started to write West Virginia and West was entered on the wrong line. The actual place of birth for both parents would be Virginia.
The name Ruth comes from the fact a woman named Ruth Hudson married a George Hundley.
John Hudson never remarried after moving to Kanawha County.
John Tas had two wives, neither one named Ruth.
There are other "John Hudsons" in West Virginia, not to be confused with these two.
None of the sisters' death certificates indicate a Mother's name. It simply was unknown.

Also, I have placed his place of birth as Floyd County as stated on the death certificate. Family history is he was named John Tazewell as he was born in Tazewell County.
