Rev. Hoyt Scoggins, 90 of Rome, went to his eternal home on Wednesday, January 13, 2016.

He was born in LaFayette, GA on January 9, 1926, son of the late William Murphy Scoggins, Sr. and the late Louise Webb Scoggins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Mae Scoggins in 2008; a son, Dolan Scoggins; and brothers, William Scoggins, Jr., and Harold E. Scoggins.

Rev. Scoggins was a retired ordained Church of God minister. He began his gospel ministry in the northwest Georgia area in 1957, and pastored several churches across north Georgia. He was a member of North Rome Church of God. In 2007, he was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame; in 2009, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame; and was a member of the Georgia Mountain Music Club of Rome.

He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Ty and Linda Scoggins of Rome; his daughter and son-in-law, Phoebe and Danny Wilson of Rome; his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Scoggins of Rockmart; sisters, Earline Ramey of LaFayette, GA and Donnice Goins of Cloudland, GA; grandchildren, Richie Scoggins (Gina), Chad Scoggins (Chrissy), Dobie Scoggins, Shannon Cross (Joey), Leah Honea (David), and Aaron Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Scoggins, Kristen Scoggins, Caroline Cross, Charlie Cross, Braxton Honea, Brynley Honea, and Rocco Scoggins.

Services to honor the life of Rev. Hoyt Scoggins will be held Friday, January 15th at 2:00 PM from North Rome Church of God, with Pastor Harold Jones and Pastor Bert Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Morning View Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Richie Scoggins, Chad Scoggins, Aaron Wilson, J.R. Burchett, Trammell Burchett, David Honea, and Johnny Scoggins. Honorary pallbearers are Bud Owens, Shane Scoggins, Wayne Casey of GA Mountain Music Club, Maurice Erwin, Troy Parker, Jerry Crowe, and Howard Tyler.

The Scoggins family will receive friends at the North Rome Church of God on Friday, January 15th from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
