George and Dorothea Adams

CONNEAUT — George E. Adams, age 92, of Conneaut, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016, at UH Geauga Medical Center.
George was born on May 8, 1923, in Conneaut, to Arthur C. and Elizabeth (Mackey) Adams. He graduated from Conneaut High School Class of 1939 where he was a notable musician and athlete. He then attended Ohio State University on a football scholarship, completing his formal education after World War II at Case Western Reserve Univ. and was a member of Pershing Rifles Reserve Officers Association and Sigma Chi Fraternity.
George was a fifty plus year member of the Masonic Lodge and was active in local politics, serving as an at-large councilman from 1956 to 1962. He gained flight training and theory while employed by Curtiss-Wright Aircraft Corp in Buffalo, prior to military service. He was a licensed pilot before entering the military, and emerged a decorated combat veteran. He held membership in several Veteran’s organizations and also served as District Executive, Boy Scouts of America.
He was a member of United Congregational Christian several years ago, where he was active as a Sunday School teacher, a choir member, and sat on various committees. More recently, he attended Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and was also actively involved with the ministry of music.
Over the years, George was employed by several area industries as an engineer. Under George’s supervision, he dealt with the demolition of the original P & C Dock Co. iron ore bridge foundation in 1957. In June of 1961, he and his wife, Dorothea purchased Pizzi Café, which operated successfully as a family business for 38 years.
George was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillian Aho and Beverly Rockwell; a son, William E. Adams; and daughter, Beverly Wagner.
Dorothea M. Adams, age 89, of Conneaut, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at UH Conneaut Medical Center.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1926, in Conneaut, the daughter of William and Louise (Vacco) Rood. Dorothea attended St. Mary Grade School and graduated from Conneaut High School. She attended Cleveland State University and earned a degree in Nursing.
She worked at Cleveland Bell South Telephone Co. and during that time she met her future husband, George E. Adams. In 1961, she and her husband purchased Pizzi Café, where they were both owner/operators for over 38 years.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was former head of the Women’s Democratic Party in Conneaut. Dorothea was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed traveling to visit them all. She especially loved to bake, cook and go to yard sales.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George E. Adams (two days earlier); son, William E. Adams; daughter, Beverly Wagner; and a sister, Autumn Carducci.
They are survived by their sons, Arthur and Joanne Adams of North Kingsville, George W. and Michelle Adams of Perrysburg, Ohio, Stephen and Alona Adams of Ashland and Brian and Nancy Adams of Imperal Beach Calif.; daughters, Barbara Adams of Apple Creek, Ohio and Kristen Lanham of Conneaut; 13 grandchildren, Stacia Brown, Sean Adams, Stephen “Bam Bam” Lanham, Edward Lanham, Megan Brydle, Mark Wagner, Ryan Adams, Nicole Adams, Stephen Adams, Tracy Adams, Audree Gerasimichik, A.J. Adams and Jason Adams; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16th, from 2 to 4 p.m., at RAISIAN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut. The Evergreen Masonic Lodge #222, will conduct Fraternal Services for George at 4 p.m. concluding with Prayer Services for George and Dorothea.
At George’s request, his remains were donated to Case Western Reserve Dept. of Anatomy.
Dorothea’s ashes will be buried in East Conneaut Cemetery next to her son and husband at the convenience of the family.
