Kathleen (Kay) Sawyer Hale Gill, a lifelong New Windsor resident, was welcomed home peacefully on March 28, 2015. She was 91.

The daughter of the late David and Anne Sawyer Hale, she was born April 24, 1923 in Newburgh, NY.

Kathleen was a graduate of NFA in 1941. She worked for architect J. Percy Hanaford, Weston Transfer and the law office of Bennett O'Neil before joining the copy editing team of the Newburgh News. There she met and married sports editor Wesley (Bo) Gill in 1942.

Kathleen lived a full life with her husband, hobnobbing with the prominent people of her time i.e., presidents, actors, actresses and many sports figures. She and Bo kept many of the youths in the Newburgh area busy in the Kory, Colt and Pony leagues at Newburgh's Tarr Oval baseball field. Even up into her later life, if Kay ran into one of the boys, she would remember their name and tell them what she remembered of them. Other interests of Kay's were bowling, with a 300 game to her credit, golfing at all the area courses, and gardening (roses outdoors and African Violets indoors). If you were lucky enough to meet and spend time with Kay, you received a gift. Terry and Joe Bosch of New Windsor were two of those people.

Kathleen is survived by her nephew David B. Hale of Lawton OK, niece Diana Hale King of Surfside Beach SC, and many many friends.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers, David Earnest who died at age 10, and Franklyn M. Hale, and sister-in-law Marjorie Hale previously of Cornwall.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, April 1 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A service for Kay will be held at 11 am on Thursday, April 2 in Vails Gate United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Windom officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor
