First married Rosemary. She preceded him in death.
Married Ruth Kincaid. She survives.
Also surviving are daughter Susan (Joe) Hawkins; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; step-daughter Jean Ann Burtron; step-sons Kenneth and Brian Kincaid; several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jimmy Norris, first wife Rosemary, and daughter Marilyn Gautier.
Was stationed in Germany with the US Army during WWII.
He retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, after 40 years, where he was the youngest Captain the Corps had ever had at that time. He was Captain of the dredge, SS Ockerson, (which was retired soon after his retirement) stationed in the Memphis district, commissioned to dredge the Mississippi River.
Herman was an avid golfer, fisherman, and bridge player. He was a scratch golfer and had four “verified” hole-in-ones. Memberships included Indiana State Senior Golf Association, Cool Lakes Golf Course in Lebanon, and the Indian Creek Golf group of Fort Myers and he was a past Marshall at the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a 32nd degree Mason.
