Lorene Buchanan Harris, age 75, of the Newdale Community, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Spurgeon and Estie Woody Buchanan and the wife of Gail Harris, who passed away in 2014. She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Evelyn Hensley and Maxie Burgin; infant sister, Dorothy; brothers: Shirrell Buchanan and John Tipton; brothers-in-law, Jay McKinney, Burl Harris and Garrell Harris and sister-in-law, Joyce Woody. Lorene was a faithful member of Blue Rock Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who was loving called "Nanny". She loved cooking and her flowers but her life was her family and her church family.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughters: Kim Bryant and husband, Rev. Donnie Bryant, of Newdale, Kathy Gouge and husband, Greg, also of Newdale; sons: Dennis Harris and friend, Tim Flight, of Tampa, FL, David Harris and wife, June, of Toronto, KS and Danny Harris and wife, Denise, of Morganton; grandsons: Joe Bryant, Jake Bryant and Tyler Washburn; sisters: Lona Boston and husband, Joe, of Crabtree and Ruby McKinney of Newdale; brother, Jim Buchanan and wife, Linda, of Spruce Pine. Several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 14th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Kenneth Forbes and Rev. Tull Oaks will officiate. Burial will follow in the Blue Rock Baptist Church Cemetery. The family receive friends from 12 noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
