He was born on August 29, 1921, in Oxford, MS, to the union of Pete and Oralee (Watson) Boyd. He resided in South Bend since 1951. On Dec. 25, 1954, he was united in holy matrimony to Eliza (Jones) Boyd.
Preceding him in death along with his parents and wife, Eliza, were three brothers, Len, Paul and Silas, and one sister, Rhonetta.
His memory will be cherished by his children, Jimmie Helen Boyd of Chicago, IL, Thomas Len Boyd of Jackson, MS, Jimmy (Denise) Boyd, Jr., of South Bend, IN, Edith Boyd of Philadelphia, PA, Margaret Boyd and Jacqueline (Ray, Sr.) Boyd' Stephens, both of Dallas, TX; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Ellen (E.L.) Boyd' Harmon of Memphis, TN. In addition his memory will be cherished by his companion, Willie Mae Brown of South Bend, IN, along with a host of other family and friends.
In 1946, Mr. Boyd received an honorable discharge from the Army. He served his country proudly during World War II and traveled extensively.
He retired from AM General in 1980. Since 1980, he enjoyed spending his free time with family and friends, socializing with younger generations and continuing to learn from many different people along his journey.
While he had not worked in over 30 years, he lived up to his favorite saying “keep it moving,” this helped remain active and living a youthful life.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at Alford's Mortuary, with viewing occurring from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow service at Highland Cemetery.
