J. W. Stephenson
Word has been received here by Mrs. Earl V. Phelps of the death of J. W. Stephenson of Jacksonville, Ala., Sunday at a hospital in Gadsden, Ala.
A native of Alabama, Stephenson is survived by his wife, the former Mary Etta Thomas of Owensboro; a sister and two brothers, all of Alabama. An athletic coach and educator for more than half a century, Stephenson and his wife were members of the faculty at Jacksonville State Teachers College until his retirement several years ago.
Services will be held at 3 p. m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville, Ala., followed by burial there.

J.W. Stephenson taught Physical Education for Men at Jacksonville State Teacher's College in 1932-1933. Known as "Coach Steve" he was first named the basketball coach in 1927 and retired in 1954.
