James Edward Otten, age 76 of Buffalo, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 9, 2016. Jim was born April 25, 1939 on the family farm in Buffalo to Fred and Ella (LaPlant) Otten, the youngest of 14 children.
He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at St. Francis in Buffalo, MN. Jim landscaped at Otten Brothers for 50 years. He also farmed and loved ice fishing, playing mini-golf, and enjoyed his job. His favorite thing was being with his family and friends.
On June 29, 1974, James Edward Otten and Janice Marie Larson were united in marriage in Mound, MN.
Jim is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janice; children, Geno (Linda) Otten, Shannon Olson (Mike Anderson), Donny (Betty) Otten, Joleen (Dale) Olson; step-children, Joe (Beth) Barker, Jim (Geneva) Barker, Ann Barker, Jason (Melissa) Barker; grandchildren, Lacey, Molly, Chad, Jenna, Tyler, Brett and Zane; step-grandchildren, Jerrod, Cole (Morgan), Katie, Kenny (Ashley), Brianna, Devon; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Rosie Muckenhirn, Fritz Otten; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation for Jim will be held Wednesday, January 13 from 4 to 8 PM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo, MN. Further visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to Mass on Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 14 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo, MN with Father Nathaniel Meyers officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Buffalo, MN.
