She was born to Arlie J. Haught and Effie Dora (Matthews) Haught in Farmington, WV March 19, 1925, but was raised in Fairmont, WV.
She is survived by two children, Kevin L. Moore and his companion Gail Sisson of Mesa, Arizona, Kerry L. (Moore) Darrah and husband Leonard of Fairview, WV. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Adam C. Darrah, Troy L. Darrah, K. Jeffrey Moore, Michael Moore; and one great-granddaughter, Melissa Darrah; many nieces and nephews that she loved very much. She was the last surviving member of her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson E. Moore who passed on April 6, 2009; four brothers, Charles Haught, Jack Haught, William who died young, one who died at birth; and a sister, Naomi Parker.
Her father had her leave school after the eighth grade so she could work and help out the family. She worked at the Five & Dime, did house cleaning, and babysitting until she met the handsome man who stole her heart one summer at the age of seventeen. They were married that October 4, 1942. She was employed for a short time at Westinghouse before Wilson was drafted into the army in April of 1943. She was a housewife, a farmer, and was always a part of her children’s activities which included, band, 4-H, helping with concession stands, sports, newspaper routes, and all of their summer camps. She enjoyed it all. She especially enjoyed family reunions and get togethers because she loved to laugh and talk.
Betty was a member of the Pumpkin Center Church of Christ and the Order of the Eastern Star in Fairmont.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel in Fairview from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday. The body will lie in state at the Pumpkin Center Church of Christ from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 16, in the church with Evangelist Mark Jones officiating, and a good friend, Ship Wilson as song leader. Burial will follow at the Daybrook Cemetery where she will rest with Wilson again.
