The death of Earl McDowell came as a shock to the Community, when he died suddenly at his home Wednesday evening of last week. Mr. McDowell had been working regularly at his job of operating a state highway road maintainer, at which he had been employed for the past 23 years. He hadn't been feeling well during the day Wednesday and was resting at his home when he passed away suddenly.
Earl Eugene McDowell, son of Edward and Francelia Williams McDowell, was born in Golden City, Missiouri, November 10, 1879 and departed this life at his home in Mooreland, January 16th, 1952 at the age of 72 years, two months and six days.
He moved to this part of the country with the family in 1900 and the family home established North of Curtis where he grew to manhood.
On November 29th, 1908 he was united in marriage with Miss Tresa Vogt. To this union nine children were born. One child, Virgil Leroy McDowell, died at the age of three years. For many years Mr. McDowell has done public work, first with Woodward County, and for the past 23 years he has been with the Oklahoma Highway Department in road maintenance.
In 1935 he united with the Christian Church in Mooreland on profession of faith and baptism. On February 15, 1942 the records shows that he and Mrs. McDowell united with the Methodist Church by a letter of transfer.

DATE OF PAPER-DECEMBER 3, 1908
MCDOWELL-VOGT WEDDING...A pretty wedding occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Vogt, parents of the bride, last Sunday just before noon, when Earl McDowell led to the matrimomial alter Miss Tresa Vogt. Rev. Wayne Mettler said the words that made the couple one. After the ceremony, a sumptuous wedding dinner occurred, a must pleasant time was given the invited guests. Many beautiful and costly presents were given to the bride and groom. It is hardly necesssary for us to say anything further of the occurrance; both of the contracting parties are well and favorably known, yet a few words may not be out of place: The bride has been a prime favorite in all good Society and is endowed with plenty in graces and training to make a fine helpmate and wife that anyone should be proud of. The groom-well he is a fine young gentleman, industrious and sober, and that should be enough for anyone to succeed in this life.
Sheriff J. J. Bouquot and family of Woodward attended the McDowell-Vogt wedding in this city last Sunday.
(His obituary, Family Bible, and Death Certificate all state Earl was born November 10, 1879, so the stone has the wrong month on it.)
