Kendall J. “Ken” Smith, 82, of Gurnee, died Saturday, January 9, 2016 at CondeII Advocate Hospice.

He was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1933, raised in Racine, WI and lived in the Lake County area since 1955. He was a former employee of North Shore Gas and Peoples Gas and retired in 1996 from MidCon Corporation after 40 years of service with natural gas companies. He was a graduate of Northwestern University and a longtime choir member and Sunday School music leader at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Waukegan. In recent years, he was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Waukegan where he sang with the choir and participated in other activities. He also worked for a time with PADS and was an election judge in Lake County for 10 years.

He is survived by his widow, Jan (nee Glogovsky) and their daughter Robin and her husband, Harry. He is also survived by the children of his first marriage Jamison (Lora) of OR, Jay (Dori) of MI, Jeff "Woody" of CO and a daughter, Jennifer (David) Novich of NV; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Smith; and mother, Hazel Chromasta Smith.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL., and again on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3350 N. Delany Rd., Waukegan, IL. A funeral will follow on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Jeffrey Koth, Officiating. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church have been suggested.
