Funeral services for Supt. Bennie E. Scott are scheduled in the Faith Family Church, Hwy. 59 S., Burke, Texas. Interment will be in the Forest Haven Cemetery in Diboll.

Bennie E. Scott was born to O.C. (Otis) Clyde Scott and Marie Mitchell, July 27, 1943 in Diboll, Texas. After the demise of his mother, he was reared by his maternal grandparents, Lewis Sr. and Dannie Mitchell, along with his father O.C. Scott.

Bennie was introduced to the Lord at an early age, and was taught the responsibilities of taking care of the Lord's house from one of his mentors, Pap Mathis. Bennie had been employed in many capacities, including building maintenance, Sunday School Teacher, and Superintendent, to eventually become the Chairman of the Deacon Board, at which he served for over 30 years, Bennie was a graduate of H.G. Temple High School, Class of 1961. After graduating, he attended Prairie View A&M University, until he was drafted into the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam Era, and was honorably discharged. Bennie returned to Diboll in 1961 and married Yvonne Blount, in July of 1968. He was employed by Temple Inland as a supervisor until he retired. He then joined the police force upon his graduating from Angelina College. Bennie was with the Sheriffs Department for 16 years retiring as a Lieutenant. During his retirement, Bennie continued to work with the church, and enjoyed his family until the Lord called him to rest on Jan. 7, 2016.

Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, Marie Mitchell, Lewis, Sr., Dannie Mitchell, O.C. and Zeola Scott; his brothers, Solomon Moses, Jr., Otis Scott and William Scott.

He is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Scott; children, Dorsey (Rose), Bennie Jr., and Patrice Scott, and Tamika Alexander; brothers, Lewis Mitchell, Jr., Mack (Chornita) Mitchell, Harrison "Brother" Mitchell, Zachary Scott; sisters, Ressie Levias, Irma Johnson, Phyllis Williams, and Zenova (Harold) Gasaway; grandchildren, Sakisha Bailey, Caleshia Summers, Kyla Cunningham, and Domino Jack Scott; special nieces, Eula Sparks, Sandra Blount, Sandra Garrett, Yvette Johnigan, and Sheila Hearon; close friends, Cleophus Hall, Cleveland Mark, Annie M. Singleton, and his angels Mary Foster, Dorothy Teal, and Eartha Sparks. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his Church of the Living God Family.
