He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge Pulaski Kellam, Jr. # 157893684 and Esther Bernice (Smith) Kellam #144108877, of Atlanta; grandparents, Eldridge Pulaski Kellam, Sr. # 123790115 of Atlanta and Mary Lewis (Campbell) Kellam #123790182 of Charlottesville, VA and Drewry Washington Smith of NC and Lizzy Elizabeth Outlaw Smith of Darlington, SC; sister-in-law, Joan E. Kellam, in-laws, Joseph T. Burgan and Lucy Hammontree Burgan of Tunnel Hill, GA; and numerous relatives, in-laws and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Zelma Ruth (Burgan) Kellam of Tunnel Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda Kellam Schilling and William R. Schilling of Marietta and Saint Simons Island, and Elizabeth Kellam Bassett and James A. Bassett of Snellville; grandchildren; William R. Schilling, Jr., Meghan E. Green and Katherine P. Bassett; brother, Eldridge P. Kellam, III of Saint Simons Island; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marguerite Lands, Mary Howard, Daniel Burgan, Julian Burgan; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Drew loved his Country and signed up early to serve in the Army in the Korean Conflict and is a retired military veteran. He grew up in Midtown and attended O’Keefe and graduated Grady High School. He was a cradle roll member and descendant of the founders of First Baptist Church Atlanta, and is a member of Northeast Baptist Church. Throughout his life, he enjoyed going to church, studying the Bible, visiting often with family, friends, and his pals at the V.A., travel, numismatics, family genealogy, photography, poetry, the USA Space program and going to their beach home. He is an eleventh generation American descendant of the founders of Jamestown Colony Virginia and he greatly enjoyed attending the 400th Anniversary of the Founding of America with the Jamestown Society in Williamsburg, VA.
The Memorial service to honor and celebrate the life of Drew Kellam will be held with Military Honors at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. Phil Nall officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. Interment will be held Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at Lee’s Chapel Cemetery, Tunnel Hill, GA. The family will receive friends following, at the Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
