Onita D. Johnson, 88, North Manchester, IN died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, January 10, 2016 in Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN.

She was born August 9, 1927 in North Manchester, IN to Clure & Linnie (Hallgarth) Jerew. On August 21, 1949 she married Lewis "Louie" E. Johnson. He died October 29, 2001.

Graduated Central High School, North Manchester, IN 1945, She graduated from Manchester University in 1949 with degrees in Music, Physical Education and English, later receiving a Master’s degree in Physical Education from Saint Francis University in Fort Wayne. Onita had a passion for teaching. After beginning her career at Sidney and Akron High Schools, she spent 30 years as a professor and later Chair of the Physical Education Department at Manchester University.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Moore, Fort Wayne, IN and Judy (Mark) Dudeck, Wilmington, NC and four grandchildren. One brother and two sisters are deceased.
