LUIGI (LOUIS) M. AMODEO, 88, died on September 9, 2006 at his home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 12, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with entombment at the MERLE HAY MAUSOLEUM, Des Moines, Iowa, following the service. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 PM at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, Des Moines, Iowa, with a 7:45 Prayer Service.

Louie had a colorful and varied life.

He served in the C.C.C. in his teen years,
worked on the railroad as a laborer,
married Edith L. PETERSON and was father to three children
He was in the military in the later years of WWII.
He returned from the service in 1945 and was a rural route bread salesman for Supreme Bakery until they went out of business in 1955.

He, along with three partners, owned and operated ALPS, a rural bread and commodity delivery service with nine employees, until December 31, 1957. On January 1, 1958, he, along with his wife and his best boyhood friend, Frank LEO, opened the Allen Township Veterans Club. In 1959 he bought out his partner and the business ran until the fall of 1965. He then worked as a construction labor foreman. He re-opened his business in late 1966 and called it AMODEO's RESTAURANT and LOUNGE, just outside of Carlisle, Iowa. It was well known for it's fine menu of steaks and BBQ ribs. He retired on December 1, 1996 at the age 78. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Church and AMVETS.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Edith; his daughter, Mary Rose (AMODEO) LAWLESS; his sisters, Anna CIOCCIO, Vic CORDARO, Carmella CARTER; and his brothers, Bap AMODEO and Joseph AMODEO. He is survived by his loving sisters, Mary (AMODEO) SCAVO, of Des Moines and Rose (AMODEO) KELLY of Mason City.
