George W. Bethell, 86, Aledo died Sunday Oct 28th, 2001 at the Mercer County Hospital, Aledo IL.Services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Aledo, with The Rev. Carl Stoldt officiating. Burial will be at Penial Cemetery, Joy IL.
George W. Bethell was born Dec 28, 1914, in Ripley County MO., the son of John L. and Alice Autry Bethell. He married Gertrude Castle may 7th in Tipton IA. Through the years Mr. Bethell had been a slaesman for the DAvenport Packing Company, owned and operated a meat market in Aledo, and farmed for over 20 years. He was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church, Mercer County Farm Bureau, Moline Vikings Club Davenport Moose Club, and Varsity Dinner Dance Group. He enjoyed spending much of his time with family; bowling; woodworking; bird and squirel watching; and fishing. Mr Bethell survivors include his wife, Gertrude; daughters and sons-in-law, Marna and David Ehlers, Coal Vally and Diana and James Vance Aledo; son and daughter-in-law, George and Jane Bethell, Davenport IA; sister and brother-in-law, Effie and Horace Paul; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Doris Bethell, Aledo; 10 grandchildren;12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters, Bessie;Alma;Ida;Martha; and 3 brothers, Jess; Herb;John.
