Martha Ellen White was the daughter of John Milton & Mary Catharine Ray White. Mattie was a tall, blonde girl with big blue eyes and was raised a Friend. On 23 Sep 1880, at the age of 22, Mattie married James Edwin Stubbs. Seven children were born to them: Arthur Garfield, J Raymond, Herbert White, Della Catherine, Stella, Hazel, and Lucile. She was a deeply religious woman and a devoted wife to Edwin. Mattie died in 1903 at the age of 45.
