Clara Peterschick (04/06/1916 - 11/01/2010)

Clara Yale Peterschick passed away November 1, 2010 in Spokane. She was born on April 6, 1916 in Spangle, WA the daughter of Olin Lee and Emma (Payne) Yale. Clara was always proud of the fact that she was also the granddaughter of Louis J. Yale, a colorful stage driver and early pioneer of Spokane, who was featured in such books as "The Early Birds of the Northwest "(Bond, 1971). She grew up in Spangle where she later met a young man from Plaza at a barn dance, and as they say, the "rest is history." She married Bill Peterschick and became the loving mother of Richard, Carolyn, Deanna and James. After farming in Plaza for many years, Clara and Bill moved to Spokane, where Clara worked at Sacred Heart Hospital as the supervisor of the Central Supply. She retired after 24 years of service at Sacred Heart. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier church and was well known for her many talents as a seamstress, cook, china painter, piano player and writer. Three years ago, at the age of 91, Clara was invited to read some of her published stories at Auntie's bookstore in Spokane. Clara was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, William Peterschick in 2003; son Jim Peterschick; daughter Carolyn (Al) Young; brothers Lawrence, Preston, Arthur and sister Beatrice Wright. She is survived by her son Richard (Shirley) Peterschick of Spokane; daughter Deanna (Rick) Gilmore of Moscow, ID; 13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 9, 2010 from 12-7 pm with Vigil Rosary services beginning at 7 pm, all at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 10 am and will be conducted at Holy Cross Mausoleum Chapel, 7200 N. Wall St., Spokane.
