Son of Nathan Slay and Martha Ann Sumrall. Sibling to; David, Mary, John, Nathan Jr., Ann, Alfred, William Carney (Rev.), James, Alexander (Sandy), and Martha Elizabeth.
He married Honor Futch in Mississippi. Her middle name may have been Pelton. Honor's father was John Futch.
Children of William and Honor were: John Linton, Martha Elizabeth (Mattie), Caroline C. (Callie), Lawrence James, Eleanor V., Catherine Cornelia (Kate), and George W. Slay.
He married Laura Ann Hargrove in 1868 in Jasper County, Mississippi. She was the daughter of William Hargrove and Katherine (Kitty) Ross. Their children included; James Buchanan, Althea May, Richmond (Dick) Oliver, William M., Benjamin Hilborn, and Frances Alice Slay.
William Slay lived n the Holloway Prairie precinct in 1879 and served as the Parish Commissioner. During this time, he also ran for Police Juror in the Pineville Ward. He lived on property on the east side of his cousn Hiram Oliver Slay.
The last known location for William Slay was as Head of Household, 1880 Census in Pineville, Rapides Parish, Louisiana. He died about 1883. There is no confirmation that his middle name was Sidney. His burial place is unknown, and it is assumed he was buried on his property.
