Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, Grove, OK 918-786-2261. The Reverend David W. DeVore of Grove, Oklahoma, peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home, Monday, June 22nd at a St. Louis hospital following a short illness. His beautiful wife and constant companion of thirty-one years, Judy, was at his side.

Born February 13, 1940 in Lawton, Oklahoma, The Reverend DeVore was the only child of the late William (Bill) and Dollie Lowrey DeVore. He attended high school in Anadarko, Oklahoma and graduated from Anadarko High School in 1958. In fall of 1958, David attended Southwestern Bible College (now Southwestern Assemblies of God University) in Waxahachie, Texas where he later graduated receiving a degree in ministerial studies. David was also a graduate of St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Kansas.

At the young age of 22, The Reverend DeVore pastored his first church in Warner, Oklahoma. He had subsequent pastorates until 1978 when he returned to his alma mater, SAGU in Waxahachie, Texas. He served the college as Vice President of Development until 1980.

From early 1980 to January 1997 The Reverened DeVore served in the United Methodist Church organization, pastoring several churches. In February of 1997, he was the founding pastor of Church of the Shepherd in Grove and served as Senior Pastor until his retirement in 2006. He remained interim pastor for the UMC until his illness a few months ago.

The Reverened DeVore is survived by his loving wife, Judith (Judy) DeVore of Grove; a daughter, Juli Miller and her husband, Rick of Grove; a son, Bill Dodd and his wife, Tara of Edmond; a daughter, LaDonna Szczur and her husband, Jim of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a daughter, Malaynee DeVore of Silverado, California; grandchildren, Chelsea Perryman and her husband Jake from Grove; Madison Miller of Grove and Cody Dodd of Edmond and a great granddaughter Kate Perryman of Grove.

Other grandchildren include: Sydney, Zachery and Cody. He is also survived by an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services for The Reverened DeVore will be Monday, June 29th at 10:00 am at Church of The Shepherd (COS) in Grove, Oklahoma. It will be officiated by The Reverend Nick Harris of Edmond, Oklahoma. Nick and David were like brothers and have shared a close friendship since their college days at SAGU more than fifty years ago.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The David DeVore Memorial Fund, Grand Savings Bank, PO Box 451809, Grove Oklahoma 74345-1809.
