Donna Angela Coleman passed away on December 31, 2015 at Spring Creek Manor, Meridian, ID from complications related to Alzheimer disease. She arrived in this world on January 24, 1931 on the porch of her parent’s home in Emmett, ID, the middle of three children born to William and Edna Bremmer. Donna graduated from Emmett High School in 1949 and went to work for the Idaho Statesman. On August 8, 1951 she married her high school sweetheart, James O. Coleman. During their 64 years of marriage, Donna worked for First Security Bank in Emmett while Jim served in the military. With his honorable discharge from the Army they moved to Moscow, ID to pursue Jim’s education degree at the University of Idaho. In January 1954 they welcomed the first of three boys, Thomas Michael, then in Boise, Richard James in 1958 and Donald Alan in 1960. Donna was a devoted wife and mother and she spent her entire adult life in those pursuits. She attended nearly every school program and athletic event her children were involved in and she raised her boys with a strong Catholic faith. She was active in the church in both Emmett and Boise. Jim and Donna were actively involved in the creation of the St. Marks Parish on the corner of Cole & Northview in the 1970’s, as well as the beautiful new church built in 2004. Donna regularly attended daily mass at St. Marks with her lifelong best friend and sister Joan Barber. Father Len MacMillan said it perfectly describing Donna as the “one who prays a lot” and Jim “as the socializer.” Donna volunteered with the St. Alphonsus Auxiliary for 30+ years and loved her work with the auxiliary assisting patients and staff. Jim worked 33 years as an educator in the Boise School District, retiring in 1990 as the principal at North Junior High School. They then traveled the world, notably to Rome and throughout Europe, and they ate lunch in the World Trade Center in NYC one year to the day prior to the tragedy we know today as “9/11.” While in NYC in 2000 they attended a Yankee’s baseball game. Donna’s father Bill was a die-hard Yankee fan who never made it to Yankee Stadium, and he raised his children and grandchildren with stories of Ruth and Gehrig. Upon entering Yankee Stadium Donna was thinking of her father as she soaked in the sights and smells. Her father would see a live game that day through her eyes, and she shed a tear. Donna watched her children and grandchildren grow to become adults and she was proud of each and every one. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna Bremmer; by her brother William (Billy) and her sister Joan; her in-laws Oscar and Stella Coleman, her brother-in-law Robert Coleman, and her daughter-in-law Marilyn Coleman. She is survived by her husband Jim Coleman; her sons Tom (Russ Sutton), Dick (Shirleen), and Don (Becky); her brother-in-law Norm Barber and sister-in-law Lois Coleman; her grandchildren Michele Lauer (Erich), Nicole Coleman (Courtney), Barbara Anne Rust (Ryan), Angela Coleman, Nicholas Purdy (Katie), Michael Coleman, Sean Coleman (Keila), and Danielle Coleman (Derek); plus eight great-grandchildren. Arrangements are under the care of Cloverdale Funeral Home (www.cloverdalefuneralhome.com/). Viewing will be from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesday, January 5th at Cloverdale Funeral Home. A Rosary at St. Mark’s Catholic Church is Tuesday, January 5th, at 7pm. The funeral and mass will be held at 11am on Wednesday, January 6th at St. Marks Church officiated by Fr. Ben Uhlenkott followed by a reception at the church. The burial will be held in Emmett, ID after the reception at approximately 3:00pm. The family wishes to thank the staff at Spring Creek Manor and Treasure Valley Hospice for their kindness and care provided to Donna. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to the “I’ll Be Me Alzheimer’s Fund” (www.ibmaf.org) or to a Hospice facility of your choice.
