A. Robert Cleland, 76, of Cheboygan, died following a short illness on Friday, June 12, 2015 in his son’s home in Carp Lake.
He was born December 9, 1938 in Cass City to Alexander, and Margaret (Pelton) Cleland.
Robert worked as the Administrator to the Chief of Police, Bloomfield Township, retiring in 1992 after 29 years of service. He was a former member of the Pontiac Elks Club. Robert enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and the world. He was a member of the Nomads Club.
Robert enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, golfing, and snowmobiling with family and friends. He found peace by the waters, whether riding in his boat or sitting by the river. Robert enjoyed wintering in Florida.
Robert is survived by his sons, Bill (Lori) Cleland of Commerce Township, Bobby (Marsha) Cleland of Carp Lake; step-daughter, Stacey (Dennis) Lehman of Holly; grandchildren, Heather (Nawras), Alex, A.J., Andy, Jim, Carrie Ann, J.D., Caroline, Dennis; sister, Jean Cleland of Ubly; nephews, David Matthews and Mark Matthews.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, Stephen James Cleland.
A funeral service was held Monday, June 15, 2015 at Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ officiating. Interment was in Elkland Township Cemetery.
Pallbearers for Mr. Cleland: Bill Cleland, Bobby Cleland, Alex Cleland, Andy Cleland, Dave Odet and Dick Wallace.
