Thayer, David Bowerman Ypsilanti Township, MI Age 80, graduated to a higher level to be with our Lord on Friday, 8 January, 2016 at Heartland Health Care. He was born 13 March, 1935 in Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, MI, the son of Charles LeRoy and Hazel Mae (Bowerman) Thayer. David was the loving husband of the late Donna, his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years. They were married 18 August, 1956 at the First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti by Donna's grandfather, the Rev. Ansley B. Claypoole. Donna and David knew each other all their lives, as both families attended the same church. David was a graduate of Ypsilanti High School, Class of 1953, Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan and served honorably in the United States Army. He was a devoted son, son-in-law, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather and caregiver to his brother and aunts. He was active all of his life at the First Baptist Church serving the Lord. David served the community as a Boy Scout leader and merit badge counselor, the Ypsilanti Lions Club, and was active with the Class of 1953 reunions. Survivors include: two sons, Reid Bowerman (Cynthia) Thayer of Onsted, and Roger (Linda) Thayer of Livonia; one daughter, Diane Marie (Michael) Wojtylko of Grand Blanc; seven grandchildren, Matthew Thayer of Livonia, Amanda (Juan) Suarez of Algonquin, IL, Andrew Thayer of Onsted, Mackenzie Thayer of Green Bay, WI, Kyle, Kaleb and Krysta Wojtylko of Grand Blanc; one great-granddaughter, Gabriella Suarez; sisters-in-law, Arlene Ridenour, Gwendolyn Thayer and Helen Thayer; brother-in-law, Robert (Carol) Sutter. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Duane LeRoy, Marvin Veryl and Robert Eugene Thayer and sister Kay (Thayer) Sutter. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 11 AM at Stark Funeral Service, with Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Ypsilanti, Washtenaw County, MI. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
