Ted graduated from Tech High School in 1938 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He attended the University of Chicago where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity, received his B.S. from Butler University, and his Masters degree from Purdue University.
Ted married Bettie B. Lightner, and was employed as a project manager for the Allison Division of General Motors for 34 years, and then as an Air Pollution Engineer for the State of Indiana for 10 years.
He was a 91 year member of Woodruff Place Baptist Church, a past Scoutmaster of BSA Troop 190, and a Commissioner of BSA Crossroads of America Pioneer District for 30 years.
Ted is survived by his children, Ted M. Sowders, Jr. (Terrie), Phillip L. Sowders and Diana Marchitelli (Ron); and five grandchildren.
Ted’s wife, Bettie Sowders; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Sowders, preceded him in death.
