The entry lists Captain Bartels dead in 1943 a the Battle of the Bulge assigned to the 319th Infantry Div Company C. This battle was fought during the Dec 1944-Jan 1945 period, so... The history report from HQ 319th Infantry Office of the Regimental Commander for the month of March 1945 states: "Bergen, Germany, 14 March 1945. Major Arthur H. Clark, CO 1st Bn, organized and planned the attack of his battalion on Bergen and maintained contact with Task Force Donaldson of the 26th Infantry Div. 1st Bn jumped off in attack at 1630 and moved southeast. At 1820 Co C Inf Div attacked a pillbox in the attack the commanding officer of Company C, Capt Charles E. Bartels was killed by small arms fire. Maj Clark ordered Co C to contain the pill box..." Prior to being assigned to the Infantry Capt Bartels commanded the 1221st M.P. Company at King's Cliffe airfield England. This was the home of the 20th Fighter Group. He was transferred to the Corps of Engineers in March 1944. I do not have info on when he was assigned to the 319th infantry. We also have a photo of Capt Bartels. Vr, Arthur E.
