He was the son of William Rogers and Sarah Hampton Rogers. He married Mary "Molly" E. Stevens November 13, 1873 in Spencer County, Kentucky. They had three children: William Thomas in 1874, James E. In 1878 okaccording to 1880 census and Elizabeth "Bessie" born July 15, 1880 according to Social Security Applications and Claims Index. She does not appear on 1880 census as it was taken before July. Mary E. died sometime after birth of "Bessie" and William Thomas' second marriage to Margarett "Maggie" Ingram about 1882. "Maggie" is the mother of Nola Rogers Barnett and Elizabeth Francis Rogers Maddox.
