Harvey C. "Smokey" Newton, 84, of Bay City passed away January 19, 1996 at his residence in Bay City. He was born April 5, 1911 in Fannin, Texas to Jesse M. and Edna Editha Tabb Newton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Ida "Ikie" Bryant Newton on April 20, 1985, and his son Charles Wayne Newton.
He was a foreman for Brown and Root Construction Company until his retirement in 1974. He is survived by one daughter, Evelyn "Bobbye" Haley of Nacogdoches, several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends Joyce Henry and her children and Lois Winfrey.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 am Monday in Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck with Bro. Joe Wrape of the Bay City Church of Christ officiating. Memorials may be made to the V.F.W. Post 2438, P. O. Box 269, Bay City, Texas 77414 or to the Community Hospice at 305 Sandy Corner Rd. Suite 100, El Campo, Texas 77437. Arrangements by Taylor Bros. Funeral home.
