Former Oroville editor dead at 72
Gerald B. Teague, a former editor at the Oroville Mercury-Register and many other hometown newspapers, died Saturday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Reno following a lengthy illness. He was 72.
Funeral arrangements are pending at his home in Winnemucca, Nev.
Teague was a reporter/photographer for the Mercury-Register during the 1960s and returned as managing editor during the 1980s.
He earned the respect of all who worked with him by demanding high levels of ethical journalistic standards.
Born Gerald Burdick Teague Aug. 12, 1935, in Altadena, he began his career at the Anaheim Bulletin after four years as an information specialist in the U.S. Air Force.
He earned a journalism degree from Oregon State University.
Teague also worked at The Alhambra Post-Advocate, The Record-Searchlight in Redding, and the Dixon Tribune.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy and a son, Wesley, both of Winnemucca; a daughter, Emily Reimers of Cobb, Lake County; two grandsons; his mother, Muriel Teague of Pasadena; a sister, Cecilia Ramos of Los Angeles; and a brother, Clyde of Orcas Island, Wash.
