Mrs. Mary Doris Dudley Altman, 81, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, January 7, 2016, after a brief illness.

Mary Doris was born the youngest of five children to Elam Lee Dudley and Ida Mae House on August 17,1934 in Sampson County, North Carolina. She learned the value of hard work at an early age and had to quit high school at 16 years old to help out on the family farm. She met the love of her life, William “Howard” Altman, Sr. when she was 17 years old and secretly eloped with him to Dillon, South Carolina on Easter Sunday, March 25, 1951.They were happily married for 55 years until his death on March 22, 2006. Of the marriage, two children were born: William (Bill) Howard Altman, Jr. (Ruth) of Lillington and Vickie A. Phillips (Ken) of Fayetteville. In addition, she was blessed with 4 grandchildren: Natalie Price (Daniel), Courtney Phillips, Jonathan Altman (Anna) and Brett Phillips and three great grandchildren: Caleb, Faith and Selah Price. She also leaves many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

Mary Doris was a member of Northwood Temple Church for 51 years where she served as financial secretary, deacon’s wife, Sunday School Department secretary, choir member, food committee chairman and hostess to countless receptions, wedding and baby showers and church dinners. She was also active in several civic clubs through the years. She will be remembered for her sweet spirit, generous heart and undying devotion to her husband, family, church, and most importantly, to God.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Northwood Temple Church with visitation with the family at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be directly afterwards at Lafayette Memorial Park.

Special thanks to her physician, Dr. Sasan Araghi, Sayeh Araghi, Healthkeeperz Hospice, her many caregivers, especially Ms. Susan Draughon and to two special friends: Mrs. Sylvia Young and Mrs. Jerri Campbell.
