EARLHAM - A funeral for Hermon P. Schafer, 84, of Earlham was held Aug. 17, 1985 at the Zion Lutheran Church at Dexter. Mr. Schafer died of cancer on Aug. 14 at Luther Park Health Center at Des Moines.

Burial was in the Dexter Cemetery at Dexter.

Born on Oct. 12, 1900, he was the son of Charles S. and Anna S. Clausen Schafer. He married Frieda M. Thomsen of Earlham on Feb. 14, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of the Dexter and Earlham communities.

He was a retired farmer, and also worked during the 1950s in partnership with his son, Marvin, in the operation of the Earlham International Harvester dealership. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at Dexter.

Survivors include a daughter, Pauline Dowd of Des Moines; a son, Marvin of Mission, Texas; a brother, Peter of Dexter; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
