Frieda Margaret Schafer, the daughter of Henry Thomsen and Anna Seemann Thomsen, was born August 20, 1905 at Woodward, Iowa. She passed away at Iowa Lutheran Hospital on October 13, 1978 after a short illness.

At an early age Frieda was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Bouton, Iowa. The family later moved to a farm east of Earlham and on April 25, 1920 she was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Van Meter.

At the home of her parents on February 4, 1925, she was united in marriage to Herman Schafer. To this union two children were born: Marvin of Mission, Texas, and Pauline Dowd of Des Moines. Herman and Frieda spent their married life together farming in the Dexter-Earlham area.

Frieda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter, the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and the Senior Citizens group at Earlham.
