Taylor Samuel Pickett, a retired Memphis fireman who was injured during a fire at the Cudahy Packing Plant at 23 West Calhoun on Aug. 6, 1950, died at 2:05 a.m. yesterday at John Gaston Hospital. He was 57. Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at National Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Hill. Mr. Pickett was one of 10 firemen hurt in the blaze that took the life of an 11th fireman when a roof collapsed. The injuries forced his retirement. He moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., four years ago. Mr. Pickett was flown back to Memphis last Monday after he had a stroke. He was born in Kentucky and came to Memphis about 1931. He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church. He lived at 1508 Havana many years. Mr. Pickett leaves his wife, Mrs. Roeda Pickett of St. Petersburg; six daughters, Mrs. Jerry Balziski of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. J.R. Norris of Millington, Mrs. Gerald Snodgrass of 775 Ellsworth, Mrs. Harry Dean, Gloria Sue Pickett and Carolyn, all of St. Petersburg; four sons, Jimmy Pickett, Virgil Pickett and Tommy Pickett, all of St. Petersburg, and Marvin Pickett of 872 Ball, and eight grandchildren.
