The Bishop's were of the Seventh-Day Adventist faith, thus their connection to Battle Creek Michigan. After the death of her father in 1902, Belle and her mother Martha moved to Hinsdale, Illinois home of the Hinsdale SDA Sanitarium (today's Hinsdale Hospital). Martha & Belle spent the rest of their days in Hinsdale caring for orphaned children. In 1908 they took in an infant boy whom they named Paul Bishop. In 1911 Martha built a house within walking distance of the Sanitarium. Martha lived there until her death in 1933. Belle never married and lived in her mother's house until her death in 1946. Prior to her death she sold the house to Paul who then lived in it with his wife Vesta until her death in 1993. The house was condemned by the village in 1996 with the clean-up and demolition of the house completed in 1998.
