Kathryn Lind Dooley Gibson Spencer, 82, of Cloverdale, died Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at her daughter's home following a long illness.Kathryn was born in Botetourt County December 13, 1933, and lived in the area all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Ollie Lee Dooley.Kathryn was a CNA for over 25 years at Friendship Health and Rehab, and worked for 10 years at Gutierrez Family Daycare. She was the loving caregiver to children who adored her dearly. Kathryn was a member of Community Advent Christian Church and Hollins Moose Lodge. For many years, she served on the Troutville Rescue Squad. Kathryn was all about her family.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Gibson; son, Roger "Curly" Gibson; and all of her siblings. Kathryn is survived by her husband of 34 years, James L. Spencer Sr.; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Ella Gibson of Roanoke County, Cecil and Lori Gibson of Smith Mountain Lake; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Jim Southers of Cloverdale, Kathy and Joey McCray of Troutville; stepchildren, Theressa and Sam Simpson of Cloverdale, and James and Debbie Spencer of Roanoke County; 16 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.Kathryn's family extends a special thanks to all of the health care workers that have taken such good care of her; as well as grandchildren, Chuck, Jennifer, and Kristi.A service celebrating Kathryn's life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 9, at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville with the Rev. TG Ayers and the Rev. Eric Gutierrez officiating. Burial will be at Daleville Cemetery.
