Funeral service for Mrs. Sara Futral Patterson, 74, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Arnberg, Rev. Wayne Cowhick and Rev. Bill Stinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Patterson passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Russell Medical Center. She was born on July 12, 1941 in Alexander City Alabama to William Leroy Futral and Willie Vernon Tankersley Futral. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday School class, served in the Preschool department for 42 years, and was a part of the Partners in Mission WMU group. Mrs. Patterson graduated with a degree in elementary education from Jacksonville State University and went on to earn her master’s degree. She taught in the Alexander City school system for 30 years and was chosen as Teacher of the Year for her school and her city. After retirement, Mrs. Patterson joined the Russell Medical Center Auxiliary where she volunteered and also served as secretary. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, loved going to church, cooking, playing Bridge, and was an avid Auburn football fan.

She is survived by her daughter, Robyn Mann (Barry), of Alexander City; son, William Andrew Patterson of Louisville, KY; sister-in-laws, Dawn Waters and Betty Daugherty; and brother-in-law, Hugh Holley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Joseph Patterson; parents; sisters, Margaret Cleo Long and Nancy Holley; and brother, William Robert Futral.
