Lois Minnie Marie Olhoft was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Croke Township, near Wheaton, Minn., the daughter of Frank and Minnie (Jacobs) Olhoft. She was baptized Dec. 4, 1927, and confirmed April 27, 1941, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Wheaton. Upon graduation from Wheaton High School, she attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn., as well as Concordia Teachers' College in Seward, Neb. Upon completion of her studies, she taught at St. John's Lutheran School in Antrim from 1946-48 where she was the only teacher for 14 students in grades 1-8.

On June 13, 1948, she married Eldor Breitbarth at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wheaton. They farmed northeast of Truman for many years where they raised their five children.

In March 1972, she began working at the Truman Lutheran Retirement Home. After completion of her dietetic assistant degree from the Mankato vocational school in 1975, she became the dietary supervisor there. She resigned from that job in August 1983 to become the school cook at St. Paul's Lutheran parochial school in Truman. She then helped her husband clean at many businesses around Truman. They enjoyed traveling until Eldor's death on Feb. 29, 2008.

Lois was an active volunteer at her churches, her children's schools, 4-H, the Legion Auxiliary, the Lutheran Retirement Home Auxiliary, and she enjoyed making gift bags for newcomers to Truman. This volunteerism was acknowledged by being named Truman Community Volunteer of the year.
